STALKED by My Abusive Ex Huband for 6 Years

For at least six years after I escaped my abusive marriage, my ex huband stalked me in multiple ways.

Abusive ex-husbands stalking their ex-wives is a serious issue that affects many women.*

My ex started monitoring my activites within days of me moving out of our family home, as soon as he found out where I was.

He began stalking by bringing gifts to me at my new place.

The gifts were mainly things that he knew that I wanted rather than things of a romatic nature. Many men will love bomb with flowers and the like, but he went practical.

One gift that stands out most in my mind was the $150 pair of black boots from Macy’s. I’d told him a few weeks before that I wanted them to wear to work . He wouldn’t let me buy them because he didn’t like the style. (He always had the last word on what I was allowed to wear, but that’s a story for another day.)

Then, a day or two after he brought by the boots, he showed up inside the fenced back yard of my townhouse.

Being the Martin Luther King Jr Day weekend, it brings up the question, “Do victims of domestic abuse have civil rights?”

Before we delve into that question, let’s discuss the difference between civil rights and human rights.

Seems to be a gray area. Or maybe it’s just a gray area for the State of Idaho.

How many times have your kiddios asked you that this week? 

I remember when my girls were little, as soon as school let out for winter break, that question was asked over and over and over!

You can only answer that question so many times before they get exasperated and you are, too.

Today, we are in the midst of the United Nations 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence. This international campaign, initiated in 1991 at the inauguration of the Women’s Global Leadership Institute, is coordinated annually by the Center for Women’s Global Leadership.

The actual 16 Days run each year between the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women on November 25th and Human Rights Day on December 10th.

During these 16 Days, worldwide, groups and individuals alike, organize to strategize the prevention and elimination of violence against women and girls.

The Thanksgiving leftovers are eaten and my Turkey Day guests all flew home. I’m at my kitchen table tonight writing this post for Giving Tuesday 2022. My eye catches the red kitchen dish towels hanging on the oven door and I smile.

I love these now worn and somewhat tattered cloths. Certainly, I now have the means to replace them. Yet, I can’t bear to part with them.

What’s the Relationship Between Domestic Violence and Homelessness?

Since the pandemic there has been a steady increase in the numbers of homeless and domestic violence rates in the United States.

Women and children now account for an alarming number of the homeless population due to the escalating amount who are fleeing an abusive relationship. In fact, in most technologically advanced countries, family violence has been attributed as the most frequently reported reason for homelessness.

How Do You Perceive Surrender?

Mindset

I used to think that surrender was a bad word. I equated it to failure, loss, and not being enough.

“Gina, you lose!”

“Gina, you failed!”

“Gina, you suck!”

I thought it meant to admit weakness or concede defeat; to yield or give in: to relinquish just a little bit more of my value, my self worth and my being to the greedy clutches of my abusive ex-husband.
